We participated in the XII edition of the national congress of the Spanish Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health (SEMTSI) held in Pamplona. One of the most relevant forums that brings together all professionals working in tropical and infectious diseases in Spain, one of our medical areas of interest.

During the congress, we carried out several activities to raise awareness of SpotLab and our artificial intelligence-based solutions. First, we organised a workshop called “Artificial Intelligence: The great revolution in microbiology?” which was attended by more than 40 people. The workshop consisted of a brief explanation of what artificial intelligence is, a live demonstration of AdaptaSpot and MicraSpot with AI algorithms, and a session in which attendees were asked, in groups, to design a study to develop AI algorithms in the field of tropical diseases.

In addition, we held a Tropical Medicine Challenge which was free of charge for all congress attendees who had previously registered for the activity. Participants had access to our platform, where 3 fictitious clinical cases were uploaded each day, each with enough clinical information and microscopy images to guess the clinical diagnosis. 51 people participated in the Tropical Medicine Challenge, three of them were winners and received their prize at the award ceremony during the closing ceremony of the congress.

Finally, we presented our abstract “An artificial intelligence-assisted mobile application for real-time diagnosis of filariasis” in an oral communication session.

SpotLab

SpotLab is a social enterprise that seeks to democratise access to quality diagnostics by bringing artificial intelligence to diseases that are not yet in the digital world. To make this possible, we use exponential and affordable technologies – smartphones, AI and 3D printing – to reduce the time, cost, distance and CO2 footprint of medical diagnostics. Our technology is present in Europe, Latin America and Africa. For more information, visit us at https://spotlab.ai/
