
We are proud to support the UMBRELLA-SUMMA LEGACY project — a nationwide initiative led by the Spanish Group on Myelodysplastic Syndromes (GESMD) that is redefining the landscape of precision medicine for Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) in Spain, powered by SpotLab’s digital microscopy system.
A new standard for MDS research
Across 8 participating centers, SpotLab’s technology enables hospitals and network sites to digitize, organize, and efficiently manage bone marrow aspirate microscopy samples — creating a unified research infrastructure that did not exist before.
By combining mobile digitization with SpotLab’s telemicroscopy platform, the project creates a flexible research infrastructure designed to support collaborative review and the responsible use of AI tools in the field of Myelodysplastic Syndromes.
The platform facilitates traceability, secure storage, collaborative review of research data, and the integration of AI technologies — all in the specific context of MDS diagnosis and monitoring.

The combination of SpotLab’s mobile digitization capabilities and its telemicroscopy platform allows institutions spread across Spain to work with greater connectivity, consistency, and scale — removing the traditional barriers of geography and infrastructure that have long slowed collaborative hematology research.
This approach enables each center to contribute samples to a shared, standardized digital repository while maintaining full control over local workflows, a model that is as practical as it is powerful.
